Prof Fosu is one of the most distinguished and internationally recognised economists in the world. With over 35 years of professional experience across global institutions, consulting and academia, he stands out as a well seasoned economist and policy maker having worked on several continents across various capabilities in the national and international spectrum. He is a full Professor, having taught for many years in universities in Africa and United States. He is also Research Associate, Brook World Poverty Institute, University of Manchester, UK; and Research Associate, Centre for the Study of African Economies, University of Oxford, UK. He is the erstwhile Deputy Director of the United Nations University’s World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER). Other previous positions include: Director of the Economic and Social Policy Division and Senior Policy Advisor/Chief Economist, at the UN Economic Commission for Africa; Director of Research, African Economic Research Consortium. He has published extensively, with certain rankings listing him among ‘top economists’ globally. He is editor-in-chief of the Journal of African Trade (Elsevier Sciences) and co-editor of the Journal of African Economies (Oxford). He has additionally served on the editorial boards of many other journals, including: African Development Review, Feminist Economics, Journal of Development Studies, Oxford Development Studies, World Bank Economic Review, and World Development.
